Invested in What?

July 24, 2022

When a person buys shares in a stock, mutual fund or commodity, they say they’re invested. Invested in gold, invested in Nike, invested in the S&P 500.  It means they have a vested interest in seeing the value of that security improve, and the size of their stake indicates their level of investment.

But there are many forms of investment.

When you spend time playing with your child or helping with homework, you’re investing in their future.

When you pause to mentor a junior employee, that’s an investment in the future of your company.

When you spend time learning to code in Python, that’s an investment in your future skill set.

When you eat nourishing food and get proper sleep, that’s an investment in your long-term health.

When you tip your waiter generously, it’s an investment in your community.

When you speak up among friends, it’s an investment in the culture of your crowd.

What are you invested in?
