Playing the Long Game

What kind of games do you play?

You can play short-term finite games:

• winning and losing the match
• closing the deal on a contract
• buying the house you've always wanted
• landing your dream job

But these are short-term games.  They feel good in the moment and deliver measurable tangible results, but they are not satisfying in a lasting way.  Winning these games alone does not bring fulfillment.

Or you can play long-term, infinite games:

• Watching yourself improve
• Growing closer to your family and friends
• Becoming more courageous
• Learning to be more loving and grateful

The infinite games can never be finished.  You'll never check these off your to-do list as done.

But it's in choosing to play these infinite games that we build a great life.  They don't eliminate the finite games. They add meaning to them.
