Steady and Relentless

Oct. 1, 2023

Have you ever seen a plant sprouting from a crack in the concrete? Or noticed a tree root forcing its way up through the sidewalk?  How do these plants exert such force? How do they produce such dramatic change?

It comes from steady, relentless effort.  Every moment they grow a little bit more.  Every hour they put a smidge more strain on the same spot in the concrete.  Every day they use their senses to find the very weakest point to apply pressure.

There are no acts of heroism.  No sudden bursts of creativity.

Just the same thing, over and over, every day.

Sometimes the most significant accomplishments come when we choose to show up and do the work, no matter how small, consistently day after day.  Being boring and persistent about the right things can be unbeatable.

Take a look at the week about to begin.  What is one thing that, if completed consistently, would make a big difference in making this a good week?  What if you chose to follow through on that one thing every day this week? What if you did it every day for a month? For a year?  What would you accomplish?
