Make It Sparkle

That's the advice my parents received from their realtor when they were preparing to sell their house years ago.

The realtor's point was: some things need to look clean, and some things should knock your socks off with the way they gleam.  Selling a house is the latter.

I love this for the distinctions it draws.  The agent didn't say "make it tidy" or "make it look nice".

Make it sparkle. 

There are probably lots of places in your life where sparkle is not the right quality standard.  For some everyday tasks and responsibilities, aiming for functional, orderly, ship-shape, or "good enough" is a reasonable goal and the proper allocation of time and energy.

But for the things that matter most, whatever those are for you, consider setting your sights so high that they attract attention.
