Cold Water

June 2, 2024

There's a lot to learn from taking a lukewarm shower.

When you turn on the showerhead, if it’s room temp, at first the cold-ish water is startling and unpleasant.  You probably have an urge to make it stop. Quick, warm it up aready!

But if you stick with it, after a few minutes the shock wears off.

And a few minutes after that, the water temperature starts to feel normal, in fact quite pleasant, even though it’s considerably colder than a typical hot shower.

Most new situations are like this. They’re uncomfortable at first, but once the initial resistance subsides, you realize you can handle the situation.  And more importantly, with each experience you are logging evidence that your comfort level is up to you, not your environment.
