To Make the World More Beautiful
Dec. 24, 2023There's a wonderful children's book written decades ago titled Miss Rumphius. It tells the story of a woman who sets out "to make the world more beautiful" by planting purple flowers in fields along the coast of Maine. I read this book as a child then forgot about it for 30 years. Now I'm reminded of it, because now I'm the one reading it aloud to a young family member.
If you have a child, please read it to them.
Even better, read it to yourself.
It's easy to lose track of the callings that once mattered to us: to make the world more beautiful, to make the world more loving, to make the world less divided.
The opportunities to make the world better are all around us: in our jobs, in our homes and in our relationships. Right now. All it takes is an intention and an action. What purple flowers will you plant?
