Let the Birds Live
Jan. 28, 2024Sometimes we get so focused on finding ways to kill two birds with one stone, that we forget to ask why am I killing birds in the first place?
Efficiency is output in relation to the inputs. Improving efficiency is completing your task with less effort, time or cost.
It's a fine goal, as long as the task is one worth doing.
But if the activity you're optimizing doesn't support your goals, then learning to do it more efficiently is at best a waste of time and may even be counterproductive.
The most prolific and productive people I've met are amazing not at doing things quickly, but at being highly selective in what they take on and doing those things extraordinarily well.
