More Than a Haircut

March 3, 2024

Have you ever gotten a haircut, then had someone comment about it shortly after?  Wasn't it nice?

You may have heard the term active listening. Noticing another person's haircut requires active seeing.  It means really paying attention and looking with fresh eyes.  So you observe the person in front of you, just as they are today, instead of projecting on them the person you're used to seeing.

Seeing the person in front of you will help you notice their haircut.  It will also help you notice their emotions.  Do they seem a little more chipper than usual? or a little more somber?  Are they pensive or agitated?  brimming with enthusiasm?

Noticing is a good step.  Working up the courage to say something is even better.

"Wow.  You seemed especially confident in that meeting!  Way to go."

"You seem a little glum today. Is everything alright?"

Notice a haircut and you might make someone's day.

Ask how they are beneath the surface, and you might change their life (and yours too).
